War in Wattonford: 1st battlef of the field of flames

After my last game against these ogres (who happened to be winning the campaign) I was not looking to this engagement. We used the field of flames scenario from the Tamurkhan source book (attackers have 1000pts vs defenders 750pts, the defender may place a tower (worth 500vps to the holder at the end) in his deployment zone.)
I opted to start as attacker.

Attackers
Exalted hero on juggernaut
5 marauder horse
5 marauder horse
5 marauder horse
5 chaos knights
chaos giant

Defenders
Bruiser
10 bulls
2 mourn fangs
iron blaster cannon

The ogres decided to build their tower in the lake... very helpful! And they garrisoned it with the bulls and the Bruiser. Turn 1 saw my marausers wound a bull with their Axes, however the other horsemen failed to wond the cannon. My giant then got himself charged by the mournfangs, and my hero, his juggernaut and the knight's champion got blasted away by the iron blaster. In the combat my giant took four wounds, but brought down its club on one of the ogres wounding him eight times, however the remaining mounrfang held.
With two charges, from the marauder horsemen on the cannon and remaining mourn fang, and a yell and ball it was all over for the ogres outside the tower. The marauder horsemen managed to easily over power and outrun the iron blaster, while the mournfang ran from the yell and ball, and was run down by the marauder horsemen. However in the tower, though another two ogres were felled only one knight was killed. But the ogres stood and did not flee.
Unluckily for the knights, the next turn saw the bruiser crush them all...
The Giant then got down in the tower, taking a massive bite out of the bruiser. But for all our efforts we could not shift the ogres and they ended the game in possession of the tower, with nearly double our vps.
