War in Wattonford campaign: The mad mage of Wattonford down

This was the third battle I fought in the campaign, and this week it was storm of magic. We were aloud 250pts of SOM stuff plus our 750pts. We could also exchange our army general for a sorcerer if they wern't already. We played the mad mage of Drakwald down on two seperate tables with four players in two teams on each one (Skaven and Ogres vs Lizardmen and empire and Warriors of chaos and warriors of chaos vs Lizardmen and Vampires), but of course as only one player could win and there was only one fulcrum allies could fight each other for dominance of it once the mad old mage (played by the manager) was killed.

12 skinks
12 skinks
20 skinks
10 temple guard
stegadon

Our battle line consisted of Derrick and Sigwalda directly opposite the fulcrum, flanked by two units of knights with the monsters on either side of them. In turn one Sigwalda suceeded in casting rot glorious rot, killing one temple guard, one wraith, eight skinks and two skeletons, then Derrick cast magnificent buboes at the Lizardmen's stegadon, wounding it. However the after effects were terrible! Derrick lost control of the spell casting with irresistable force, the power ripping him into the warp and taking 4 knights, 3 marauder horsemen and part of Sigwalda and the manticore with him. This meant that my ally had no chance of winning, but on a lighter note it meant that there would be no infighting.
The Ghoul king then challenged the mad mage, wounding him twice but not killing him. This meant he stepped down letting my Kinght champion have a crack at the Mad old man, but he proved to be an angry old man who knew a thing or to about Chaos himself, blasting apart the knight with the power of Tzeentch.
In the next turn the Chaos warriors and lizardmen began to close in upon each other on the left flank while the cold ones and stegadon on the right failed both their charges. Then the ghoul king challenged the mad old mage...
...And defied him, ripping apart his body with his long claws and climbing atop the altar of madness for himself! It was the end of turn four and victory for the vampires seemed certain. Also the wraiths charged in to the stegadon, precticaly putting it out of action for the game.
Then my Warshrine lead by the sacrificial cattle of Slaanesh mounted the Fulcrum to challenge the Ghoul king in mortal combat. The shrine did suprisingly well, but did not kill the vampire however it didn't take a single wound.
Then alot of stuff happened at once. The Vampire cast doom and despair with irresistable force letting the power rip through his mind and robbing him of his magical casting ability which meant that he tumbled from his fulcrum. This looked good for us but then the power of his spell caused the altar of madness to displace its elf to the other side of the board. On a smaller note the marauder horse and cold ones charged the wraiths putting their numbers down to two, but losing a cold one. The warshrine got charged by the skeletons and the warriors of chaos killed thirteen skinks, wounded the stegadon, killed a temple guard, sent the temple guard and kotem running along with another skink (the last remnants of one of the units) only taking six casualties.
It was the begining of turn seven and the whole game hinged on one spell. Could Sigwalda cast transportation (a special SOM spell that sends you to a fulcrum) on herself and not roll a double six? but still roll enough dice to stop the necromancer lord dispelling?
In the end I rolled twelve dice... five of them were sixes. She transported herself onto the fulcrum but the magical energys of desperation burst out of her, but fortunatly they did not affect her. However then came the fulcrum miscast... and it just displaced itself to the back of the lizardmen's board edge, just to add insult to injury! Victory was Slannesh's and all the lizardmen and vampires could do was sit and watch as Sigwalda stood triumphant on the altar of madness!
On the right flank by now all the cold ones were dead, but only two wraiths remined!
My sorceeress Sigwalda the fiery. If anything this battle has to be the closest i've ever fought (but then I always say that about SOM, it is just so unpreedictable and everything is constantly changing!) and it put me on the map with 3 Hexagons and 3000 campaign pts.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next report... this time reverting back to our 750pts.
