Battle of the Zhufbar road

I have started going to two clubs again recently, the one that i've been going to so far is every month where as the one I have been going  to again recently is every week. I have been down a few times already but this was my first game using my models that I have had there.
A few weeks a go I had organised a 1500pts game of warhammer fantasy against a beastman force with my empire, so i decided to test out the new rules to their full ability.
It was a new experience for both of us as I had never fought beastmen before and he hadn't had a chance to fight the new empire yet.

Grand army of Hardenburg
  • Archlector with sword of bloodshed, dawn stone, encahnted shield, heavy armour and war altar of sigmar (Morr!)
  • Witch hunter with brace of pistols and greatweapon
  • Witch hunter with brace of pistols and greatweapon
  • 30 halbediers with shields, champion, standard and two detachments of 15 free companies
  • 30 greatswords with banner, champion and two detachments of 15 free companies
  • Hellblaster volley gun
Warbands of the Bray shamans
  • Level four bray shaman with jagged blade
  • Beastlord army battle standard bearer
  • level 1 bray shaman
  • 30 bestigors with great weapons and full command
  • 35 gors with additional hand weapons and full command
  • 6 ungors with bows
  • 5 harpies
  • razorgor
  • razorgor
The forces slowly advanced towards each other with the War altar perfectly positioned to make sure that the entire battle line recived hatred and all the battle prayers each turn! Both witch hunters declared the level four bray shaman as their target before the game.
The Greatswords were facing off against the bestigors, with a razorgor against one of their detachments and the other detachment in a perfect position to counter charge with a flank. The Halbediers on the other hand were facing off against the gors, with the ungors against one of their detachments and the other detachment in a perfect position to counter charge with a flank.
The Hellblaster was then positioned on a hill, with the harpies just 12" away and another Razorgor facing off against them as well.

The first round of shooting saw the hellblaster crew frantically turn it towards the harpies, however in their hurry they didn't load one of the barrels correctly and it misfired, only killing three of the harpies, which still left two to charge the crewmen next turn.

And they lost no time in charging. However it did not go smoothly for the beastie and the two of them only suceeded in killing two of the crewmen before the last man dispatched them.

The lines were now arrayed within shouting distance of each other and the beastmen, who had waited quietly till this moment, charged for the humans just in front of them! The razorgor went hurtling into the free companies, the bestigors smashed their way into the greatswords, only to be countercharged in turn by the free companies. But the gors held their ground and waited.

The ensuing combat was naught of a blood bath! The free companies wounded the razorgor once, losing just two men to its charge. However the other combat was far more ruinous with the greatswords and free companies killing twelve bestigors to the loss of eleven greatswords. But the fight was not yet over and the witch hunter, having foolishly declared a duel on the Bray shaman only to have it accepted by the bestigor champion, was struck down by the bestigor champion but not before he slew him!
So the combat dragged on, with the bray shaman diving in amongst the greatswords with his jagged blade.

The Halbediers and one of their free companies now foolishly declared a charge on the gors, with their other detachment declaring on the ungors. The First free company plunged headlong into the gors, but the halbediers failed their charge on a double one and left the free company in a bitter fight without support. The other free companies made their charge on the ungors, losing but one man to their stand and shoot.

The lone crewman now fired off the hellblaster on the Razorgor heading for his hill and butchered it with twenty eight shots! However the gun was now out of range and could not fire for a turn anyway as it was under crewed. It had successfully seen off five harpies and a razorgor but had done little else, barely scraping its own points value of kills.

With the death of three more free companies the Razorgor took a wound from the peasants. But neither side buckled. However the blood bath was still going on at a rapid rate. The arch lector had tried to cast hammer of sigmar but it had been dispelled and then shield of faith but a power scroll had been used. But without this divine aid the men still did remarkebly well, slaying ten bestigors to the loss of two free companies and eighteen greatswords, with the champion holding his ground even with all his men dead!
The Free companies and the gors meanwhile were fairing very differently. The Gors lost one man to the loss of fourteen free companies, and unsuprising the irregular infantry fled! Thier counter parts however easily butchered the ungors, but went charging off into the distance.

The Gors now crashed into the halbediers, one falling from the witch hunter's pistols as they charged. But when they hit it was with such force that no man could stand against it. To just six casualties the Gors slayed twenty five halbediers before, with their witch hunter calling them back, the remaining five fled. However the gors did not pursue and instead wheeled to face the archlector!

With the halbediers, our last witch hunter and the remnants of the detachments fleeing from the field, Arch lector Boris Johannes Marcov wheeled his War altar round to face the twenty six Gors and their commanders!

Meanwhile the last crewman was still hauling the hellblaster across the field to get it in range of something beastie to shoot at.
In the melee but one bestigor died to the loss of a free company and the last greatsword whom had stood until the last to defy the hordes of chaos. Long shall he be remembered in Hardenburg, along with all who fell with him for they glorified the name of our Prince and sought to slay the chaos witch!
The other free companies also did exceptionally, slaying the razorgor and taking no wounds in return, now they could come down on the bestigor's rear in the next turn.

With the irresistable target of Boris atop his war altar presenting itself to them the gors threw themselves at Morr's machine of glory, whilst the bestigors turned to face the free companies. The Bestigors killed five free companies even with the 5+ ward protection fom Morr.

The Arch lector also did wuiet badly, true he struck down three gors with the sword of bloodshed and the horses of Morr that pulled his mount struck down another but when the beastmen struck back they hit the altar so hard that they toppled it over and Boris was left fighting from the ground, alone against twenty or more servants of Chaos!

Then the last stroke fell and with a rear charge from the other free companies, we dispatched the remaining bestigors and the Bray shaman general in but a round of combat to no casualties!

However it was Boris' last stand and with the help of a rear charge over eleven inches from the otehr free company, he made it count, taking out a good chunk of Gors before they were all finally cut down in the fight.

At this we called it an end. My free companies were not going to be caught by the gors any time soon and there was little my "once every other turn" hellblaster could do against them. A good game and I believe we called it a draw, however I can't really be sure if we did but that is irrelevant as it was the game that counted and it was certainly a good bloodbath!
